If I could give the RCA 7" zero stars I would have because this never worked from day one! We bought it while out on a road trip because our current DVD player (Sony) was dropped one too many times and was skipping a lot creating a very frustrating experience for all. So, we stopped off and quickly bought this as a replacement (it's all the store had in stock at the time). We fully charged it and never could read a disc...I tried ten different DVD's, too.
IF it did work, I still would have returned it for the following reasons:
--Apparently it won't play while it's charging, The switch on the side operates in the following three separate ways (1) Charge (2) stand by (3) Playback. That would never work for us because we're constantly playing it in the car while it's plugged in charging, so that's a key attribute.
--Second, the buttons are not clear...it's basically just black shiny buttons with a small indentation for the symbol (play, stop, etc.) You must have the lighting on it just right to read it, and even then, the forward chapter and fast forward buttons are hard to distinguish.
--Last, I compare this to the Sony 8" we had (and will purchase again), the RCA is very flimsy feeling and the one inch difference in the screen size really makes a big difference.
Luckily, for the remainder of our road trip our Sony powered through and only skipped on older DVD's...we'll be replacing it with the same thing soon because we've loved it. Otherwise, had we depended on this RCA to work it would have been a very hard 7 hour drive back home.

I had one of these that only lasted for two weeks, but the exact same model that I got as a replacement has lasted for 8 months and it is still going strong. That is with near everyday use in a treadmill room. (don't go thinking you can use this while running on a treadmill without adding speakers! I have a set of cheap-o computer speakers with a subwoofer hooked up)

If you're like me, you've owned half a dozen dvd players that stopped working reliably. I have never had trouble with this player failing to read a disk. I don't use it every day, and almost never run the player without it being plugged in. So, that might be the difference. The screen is only 8" x 4", and the sound is not very loud, but it has a head phone jack, and I have been happy with it.
